Bail Bonds FAQ — Eblen Bail Bonds Des Moines

Question 1

What is a bail bond?

Accepted Answer

A bail bond is a financial guarantee that allows a defendant to be released from jail while awaiting trial. A bail bondsman pays the full bail amount to the court on behalf of the defendant, in exchange for a non-refundable fee (typically 10% of the bail amount).

Question 2

How does the bail process work?

Accepted Answer

After an arrest, a judge sets a bail amount. You contact us, we collect our fee and any required collateral, then we post the bond with the jail. Your loved one is typically released within a few hours of the bond being posted.

Question 3

How long does it take to get someone out of jail?

Accepted Answer

Once we post the bond, release time depends on the jail's processing speed. It typically takes 2–6 hours, though some facilities may take longer. We work as fast as possible on our end.

Question 4

How much does a bail bond cost?

Accepted Answer

In Iowa, the standard bail bond premium is 10% of the total bail amount set by the court. This fee is non-refundable and is our compensation for posting the bond.

Question 5

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept cash, credit and debit cards, Venmo, Cash App, and PayPal. We work with families to find a payment solution that works for their situation.

Question 6

Do I get my money back if charges are dropped?

Accepted Answer

The bail bond premium (our fee) is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the case. However, any collateral put up to secure the bond is returned once the case is resolved and all court appearances have been made.

Question 7

What happens if the defendant misses a court date?

Accepted Answer

If the defendant fails to appear in court, the bail bond can be forfeited and a warrant will be issued for their arrest. It is critical that the defendant attends all scheduled court appearances.

Question 8

What is collateral and do I need it?

Accepted Answer

Collateral is property or assets used to secure the bond in addition to the premium. Whether collateral is required depends on the bail amount, the defendant's background, and other risk factors. We'll discuss this with you when you call.

Question 9

What are my responsibilities as a co-signer?

Accepted Answer

As a co-signer (indemnitor), you are responsible for ensuring the defendant appears at all court dates. If they fail to appear, you may be responsible for the full bail amount and any recovery costs.
